What is Treclin Gel?

Treclin Gel is a prescription treatment for acne, combining two active ingredients: clindamycin and tretinoin. Clindamycin is an antibiotic that targets acne-causing bacteria, while tretinoin, a form of vitamin A, helps to promote skin cell turnover, unclog pores, and prevent new acne from forming.

This gel is usually applied once a day to affected areas and is suitable for individuals aged 12 and older. It is particularly effective for treating moderate to severe acne that hasn’t responded to other treatments.

You can purchase Treclin Gel from courierpharmacy.co.uk after completing the online consultation form.

What is the active ingredient in Treclin Gel?

Treclin Gel contains two active ingredients per gram:

  • 10 mg (1%) of clindamycin (as clindamycin phosphate)
  • 25 mg (0.025%) of tretinoin

These ingredients work together to treat acne by reducing bacteria and promoting skin cell turnover. You can purchase Treclin Gel online at courierpharmacy.co.uk after completing the online consultation form.

What is Treclin gel used for?

Treclin Gel is used to treat moderate to severe acne, particularly in cases where other treatments have not been effective. It is designed to reduce the number of pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads by targeting the bacteria that contribute to acne and promoting the turnover of skin cells to prevent clogged pores. Treclin Gel is typically prescribed for use on the face and is suitable for individuals aged 12 years and older.

How does Treclin Gel work?

Treclin Gel works by combining two active ingredients: clindamycin and tretinoin.

Clindamycin:
Clindamycin is an antibiotic that targets the acne-causing bacteria Propionibacterium acnes. It helps reduce inflammation and prevents new pimples and pustules from forming.

Tretinoin:
Tretinoin is a form of vitamin A that speeds up skin cell turnover. It encourages new skin cells to replace old ones, preventing clogged pores caused by dead skin and oil. This helps reduce blackheads, whiteheads, and improves skin texture.

Together, these ingredients clear existing acne and help prevent future breakouts, leading to clearer, smoother skin over time. You can purchase Treclin Gel online at courierpharmacy.co.uk after completing an online consultation form.

How to Use Treclin Gel

Always follow your doctor's instructions when using Treclin Gel. If you're unsure about anything, speak with your doctor or pharmacist.

Recommended Dose:

  • Apply a small, pea-sized amount of Treclin Gel once a day, preferably at bedtime.

How to Apply:

  • Gently wash your face using mild soap and warm water, then pat your face dry with a towel.
  • Squeeze out a small, pea-sized amount of the gel onto your fingertip.
  • Dab the gel on your forehead, chin, nose, and both cheeks, then gently spread it evenly across your face.
  • Avoid applying more than the recommended amount to prevent irritation. More gel won't speed up results.

Treatment Duration:

  • For the best results, continue using Treclin as directed, even if your acne improves. It may take several weeks to see noticeable improvements, with some cases taking up to 12 weeks. If your acne persists after 12 weeks, consult your doctor for further guidance.

What to Do if You Use Too Much Treclin Gel:

  • Applying more gel than recommended won't give quicker results and may cause irritation like redness, peeling, or discomfort. If this happens, wash your face with mild soap and lukewarm water and stop using Treclin until symptoms subside. Overuse can also cause side effects such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you experience these, stop using the gel and contact your doctor.
  • Treclin Gel is for external use only. If accidentally ingested, seek immediate medical attention or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

Missed Dose:

  • If you forget to apply Treclin at bedtime, just apply it at your usual time the next day. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed application.

For any further questions or concerns about using Treclin Gel, speak with your doctor or pharmacist. You can purchase Treclin Gel online at courierpharmacy.co.uk after completing the online consultation form.

Who Should Not Use Treclin Gel?

Do not use Treclin Gel if:

  • You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • You are allergic to clindamycin, tretinoin, lincomycin, or any other ingredient in Treclin Gel (refer to the patient information leaflet).
  • You have a chronic inflammatory bowel condition such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
  • You have a history of colitis related to antibiotic use, including severe or prolonged diarrhea or abdominal cramps.
  • You or anyone in your family has a history of skin cancer.
  • You have acute eczema, which causes inflamed, red, dry, and scaly skin.
  • You have rosacea, a skin condition causing redness, pimples, and peeling on the face.
  • You have other acute inflammatory skin conditions, such as folliculitis, especially around the mouth (perioral dermatitis).
  • You have severe forms of acne like acne conglobata or acne fulminans, which include pustules and cystic nodular acne.

If any of these apply to you, do not use Treclin Gel and consult your doctor.

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Avoid contact with your mouth, eyes, mucous membranes, and damaged or inflamed skin. Be cautious when applying to sensitive areas. If Treclin accidentally gets into your eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of lukewarm water.
  • Women who can become pregnant should not use Treclin Gel unless they are using effective contraception (refer to the “Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility” section).
  • If you experience severe or prolonged diarrhea or abdominal cramps, stop using Treclin Gel and consult your doctor right away.
  • If you have atopic eczema (chronic itchy skin inflammation), consult your doctor before using Treclin.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or artificial light, like sunlamps, while using Treclin, as it can make your skin more sensitive to the sun’s harmful effects. Always use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and wear protective clothing. If you get sunburned, stop using Treclin until your skin has healed.
  • If you develop acute skin inflammation while using Treclin, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Do not use Treclin at the same time as other skin treatments or cosmetics (refer to the “Other medicines and Treclin” section).

Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, and Fertility:

  • Do not use Treclin Gel if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Consult your doctor for more details.
  • Avoid using Treclin while breastfeeding, as it is unclear whether the medication passes into breast milk and could harm your baby.
  • If you are of childbearing age, use contraception while using Treclin and for at least one month after stopping treatment.

Driving and Using Machines:

  • Treclin Gel is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.

Ingredients:

  • Treclin Gel contains methylparahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propylparahydroxybenzoate (E216), which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
  • It also contains butylhydroxytoluene (E321), which may cause local skin reactions or irritation to the eyes and mucous membranes.

If you have any questions or concerns about using Treclin Gel, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You can purchase Treclin Gel online from courierpharmacy.co.uk after completing the online consultation form.

Does Treclin Gel Interact with Other Medicines?
