What is Zindaclin 1% Gel used for?

How does Zindaclin 1% Gel work?

Zindaclin 1% Gel contains clindamycin, an antibiotic that fights acne-causing bacteria like Propionibacterium acnes. By reducing bacteria, it helps lower inflammation, prevent new breakouts, and heal existing spots. It also helps control excess oil, which can contribute to acne.

How do you use Zindaclin 1% Gel?

  • Apply a thin layer of Zindaclin Gel to the affected areas once daily, avoiding healthy skin.
  • Before application, wash the area with mild soap, rinse with warm water, and pat dry.
  • Use the gel on the entire affected area, not just individual spots.
  • Acne treatment takes time—visible improvement may take 4 to 8 weeks, with full effects seen over several months.
  • Continue using it for the full prescribed course, usually 3 to 6 months, to maintain results.

Who should not use Zindaclin 1% gel?

Zindaclin is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to clindamycin or any of the excipients in the product. Although cross-sensitivity to lincomycin has not been confirmed, it is advised that Zindaclin should not be used in patients with a history of sensitivity to lincomycin.

Special Warnings and Precautions

  • Oral and injectable clindamycin, like most antibiotics, have been linked to severe pseudomembranous colitis. Although topical clindamycin is rarely associated with this condition, treatment should be discontinued immediately if diarrhoea occurs.
  • Pseudomembranous colitis is typically caused by toxins produced by Clostridium difficile and is characterized by severe, persistent diarrhea and abdominal cramps. If antibiotic-associated colitis is suspected, appropriate measures should be taken, including stopping Zindaclin and possibly initiating treatment with metronidazole or vancomycin.
  • Response to treatment may take 4-6 weeks.
  • While systemic absorption from Zindaclin is low, the risk of gastrointestinal side effects should be considered, especially in patients with a history of antibiotic-associated colitis, enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or Crohn's disease.
  • Prolonged use may lead to resistance or overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria or fungi, though this is rare. Cross-resistance may occur with other antibiotics such as lincomycin and erythromycin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes; if contact occurs, rinse the area thoroughly with cool water.
  • Zindaclin contains propylene glycol, which may cause skin irritation, and ethanol, which may cause a burning sensation on damaged skin.
  • The irritation potential of Zindaclin may be increased if used under occlusion.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

  • There is no clinical data on the use of topically applied clindamycin during pregnancy. Limited data on pregnancies exposed to clindamycin by other routes do not suggest adverse effects on pregnancy or fetal health. Animal studies do not indicate harmful effects on pregnancy or development.
  • Clindamycin has been detected in breast milk when administered orally or parenterally. It is unknown if it is excreted in human milk following topical application. As a precaution, breastfeeding should generally be avoided while using Zindaclin.
  • The risks and benefits of using Zindaclin during pregnancy and lactation should be carefully weighed.

Effects on Ability to Drive and Use Machines

  • Not applicable.

What are the side effects of Zindaclin 1% Gel?

Around 10% of users may experience mild skin irritation, especially if too much gel is applied. Using a moisturizer can help reduce discomfort.

Common Side Effects:

  • Dry skin
  • Redness (erythema)
  • Burning or stinging sensation

Less Common Side Effects:

  • Skin irritation near the eyes
  • Worsening acne
  • Itching (pruritus)
  • Painful or sensitive skin
  • Scaly or flaky rash

While severe diarrhoea or pseudomembranous colitis was not reported in clinical trials, topical clindamycin has a theoretical risk of causing these conditions. If you experience persistent diarrhoea, stop using the gel and seek medical advice.

You can buy Zindaclin 1% Gel online from Courier Pharmacy after completing a quick online consultation.

Does Zindaclin 1% Gel interact with other medicines?

Zindaclin 1% Gel may interact with certain medications:

  • Erythromycin: Studies show that clindamycin and erythromycin can counteract each other, making them less effective when used together.
  • Metronidazole: There is evidence of a beneficial interaction when used alongside clindamycin.
  • Aminoglycosides: The effects can vary, with some reports of both positive and negative interactions.

If you are using other acne treatments or antibiotics, consult a healthcare professional before using Zindaclin.

Zindaclin 1% Gel FAQs

What causes acne?

Acne develops when hormonal changes trigger an increase in oil (sebum) production. A type of bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes feeds on this excess oil, leading to clogged pores, inflammation, and breakouts. Acne is most common on the face, back, and chest.

While some cases clear up naturally, acne can be persistent and impact confidence. Zindaclin 1% Gel is an effective treatment that reduces inflammation, prevents new breakouts, and helps clear existing spots.

How does Zindaclin work?

Zindaclin Gel contains clindamycin phosphate, an antibiotic that targets acne-causing bacteria on the skin. By stopping bacterial growth, it prevents pores from becoming blocked and reduces redness, swelling, and irritation.

Can I use Zindaclin with other acne treatments?

Zindaclin should not be used with other antibiotic treatments, whether oral or topical. However, it can be safely combined with non-antibiotic acne treatments like Acnecide Gel, Skinoren Cream, Differin, or Epiduo Gel for improved results.

What should I know before using Zindaclin?

Before using Zindaclin, check the Patient Information Leaflet for full details. If you have a history of inflammatory bowel disease or have experienced antibiotic-related diarrhea, consult a doctor before use. Zindaclin contains 20% ethanol, which may cause a stinging sensation on damaged skin.

Can I use Zindaclin while pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using Zindaclin. The active ingredient, clindamycin, can pass into breast milk, so it is advised to avoid breastfeeding while using this treatment.

How should I apply Zindaclin?

  • Use once daily, applying a thin layer to affected areas.
  • Avoid contact with healthy skin.
  • Before applying, cleanse the skin with mild soap, rinse with warm water, and pat dry.

What are the ingredients in Zindaclin?

The active ingredient in Zindaclin is clindamycin phosphate 1%. Other ingredients include propylene glycol, ethanol, zinc acetate, hydroxyethylcellulose, and sodium hydroxide.

What are the possible side effects?

Some users may experience mild side effects such as:

  • Dryness, redness, or irritation
  • Burning sensation on the skin
  • Worsening of acne in some cases

Using an oil-free moisturizer can help with irritation. If you experience severe side effects, such as diarrhea or an allergic reaction, stop using the gel and seek medical advice.

Always read the Patient Information Leaflet before starting treatment.
