Product description: Solpadeine Max tablets 24 pack
Fast, short-term relief for moderate pain
Solpadeine Max tablets are a trusted UK pharmacy option for short-term pain relief. They’re suitable for adults and young people aged 12 and over.
Each film-coated tablet contains paracetamol 500mg plus codeine phosphate hemihydrate 12.8mg. This dual-action combination is designed for acute moderate pain when paracetamol or ibuprofen alone hasn’t worked.
The 24-tablet pack is ideal for a short course. It provides enough for up to 3 days at the maximum adult dose (8 tablets in 24 hours).
How Solpadeine Max works
Solpadeine Max combines two pain-relieving ingredients that work in different ways.
Paracetamol works in the brain and spinal cord to help reduce pain and lower fever.
Codeine is converted in the liver into morphine. This adds extra pain relief for moderate pain.
Because they target pain in different ways, the combination can offer stronger relief than a single-ingredient painkiller.
No caffeine and no high sodium load
These are the standard Solpadeine Max tablets, not the soluble version.
That matters because:
They contain no caffeine, so there’s no stimulant effect.
They don’t carry a high sodium load, which may suit people who are limiting salt.
Pharmacy-only medicine (P)
Solpadeine Max tablets are a Pharmacy (P) medicine. You can buy them without a prescription, but only from a registered pharmacy.
That extra step is important. Codeine can cause dependence and misuse if taken for too long or at higher doses.
If you’re unsure whether Solpadeine Max is right for you, the team at Courier Pharmacy can help you choose safely.

Pain that stops your day in its tracks deserves something that actually works
When pain hits hard and you need reliable relief fast, reaching for the right medicine matters. Solpadeine Max tablets combine two active ingredients, paracetamol and codeine phosphate, to tackle moderate to severe pain that paracetamol alone has not been able to shift.
At Courier Pharmacy, we believe healthcare should fit the person, not force the person to fit the system. That means giving you honest, clear information so you can make smart decisions about what you put in your body, with a pharmacist in your corner if you need one. Whether you are dealing with a tension headache that will not quit, dental pain, or muscular discomfort, you deserve more than a shrug and a generic suggestion.
Five things worth knowing straight away
Solpadeine Max tablets contain paracetamol 500mg and codeine phosphate hemihydrate 12.8mg per tablet, without added caffeine.
It is a pharmacy medicine (P), available without a prescription but only from a pharmacy under pharmacist supervision.
Codeine is an opioid and can cause dependence; Solpadeine Max should not be used for more than three consecutive days without medical advice.
The standard tablet form is convenient to carry, with no significant sodium load, making it the more sensible choice for people with hypertension, heart failure, or a sodium-restricted diet.
It is not suitable for children under 12, people who are ultra-rapid codeine metabolisers, or those who are breastfeeding.
Treatment dosage: Solpadeine Max tablets
Always follow the dosage instructions printed on the pack or provided by your pharmacist. The information below is based on the product’s Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) and BNF guidance and should not replace personalised advice from a healthcare professional.
For adults and children aged 16 and over: take 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain. Do not take more frequently than every 4 hours. Maximum 8 tablets in any 24-hour period.
For children aged 12 to 15: take 1 tablet every 6 hours as needed for pain. Do not take more frequently than every 6 hours. Maximum 4 tablets in 24 hours.
Standard tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not exceed the stated dose. Crucially, do not use Solpadeine Max tablets for more than three consecutive days. If pain persists beyond three days, or worsens, stop taking the medicine and speak to a pharmacist or GP. Prolonged use beyond the recommended duration significantly increases the risk of dependence.
Children under 12 must not take Solpadeine Max tablets because of the codeine breathing risk in younger children. Adolescents aged 12 to 18 who have had their tonsils or adenoids removed for obstructive sleep apnoea must not take Solpadeine Max for the same reason. People known to be ultra-rapid metabolisers of codeine should also not take Solpadeine Max, because they can produce dangerously high morphine levels from a standard codeine dose.
If you are already taking other medicines that contain paracetamol, such as cold and flu remedies or other combination painkillers, do not take Solpadeine Max tablets at the same time. Accidental paracetamol overdose from combining products is a genuine and preventable risk, and the maximum total paracetamol dose from all sources combined is 4g in 24 hours for adults.
Overview of Solpadeine Max tablets
Summary
Solpadeine Max tablets contain two active ingredients working together: paracetamol for central analgesia and codeine phosphate for opioid analgesia.
The three-day maximum duration is not a suggestion; it is a safety limit based on the dependence potential of codeine.
The standard tablet form is caffeine-free, which makes it the better choice if you are caffeine-sensitive or if you tend to take pain relief in the evening.
People of North African, Ethiopian, or Saudi Arabian heritage are more likely to carry the CYP2D6 gene variant that makes them ultra-rapid metabolisers of codeine, which increases the risk of morphine toxicity.
Unlike the soluble Solpadeine Max format, the standard tablet does not carry the significant sodium load that effervescent formulations require, making it suitable for people with hypertension, heart failure, or kidney disease.
Solpadeine Max tablets occupy a specific position in the pain relief landscape. It is intended for situations where single-ingredient analgesics have genuinely not been enough, not as a first-line option for mild pain. The NICE guidance on pain management emphasises the importance of using the least potent analgesic appropriate for the pain level, which means Solpadeine Max sits above paracetamol or ibuprofen alone but below prescription-strength codeine preparations like co-codamol 30/500. Used within that context, and for no more than three days, it can be an effective short-term solution.
The three-day limit deserves emphasis because it is widely misunderstood. Codeine is a mild opioid, and regular use beyond a few days can lead to physical dependence, where the body adapts to the presence of the drug and withdrawal symptoms emerge when it is stopped. It can also lead to medication overuse headache, a paradoxical worsening of headache symptoms in people who take analgesics too frequently. Neither of these outcomes is inevitable with appropriate short-term use, but both are preventable by respecting the three-day rule.
The choice between the standard tablet and the soluble tablet form is a real one. Both formulations contain paracetamol 500mg and codeine 12.8mg, but the soluble version also adds 30mg of caffeine and carries a significant sodium load to make the effervescent chemistry work. The standard tablet form is the better choice if you want caffeine-free pain relief (for example in the evening, or if you are caffeine-sensitive), if you need to limit your sodium intake for medical reasons, or if you simply prefer the convenience of a tablet you can carry in a pocket or handbag and swallow without water access. The soluble form is the better choice if speed of onset is the priority or if you find tablets difficult to swallow.
People managing long-term pain conditions, including fibromyalgia or conditions associated with chronic fatigue, sometimes turn to over-the-counter combination analgesics like Solpadeine Max during acute flare-ups. This is understandable, but it is worth having a broader pain management conversation with a prescriber rather than relying on short-course OTC products for recurring episodes. Pain management built around you, not the other way round, often involves a wider toolkit than just OTC codeine combinations. Our team at Courier Pharmacy can be a useful first step in that conversation.
Why choose Courier Pharmacy for Solpadeine Max tablets
At Courier Pharmacy, we built our service around the idea that healthcare should fit the person, not force the person to fit the system. That applies to a pharmacist consultation just as much as it does to a prescription. When you buy Solpadeine Max tablets from us, you are not just completing a transaction: you have access to a team that genuinely wants to make sure it is the right option for you. Our approach, shaped by the philosophy of Dr Ada Jex-Cori, our brand pharmacist, is that the best care is honest, personalised, and delivered without condescension. As Dr Ada puts it: you are not broken. The system is. We are here to change that.
We know that people managing long-term or complex conditions, whether that is fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, or chronic pain of any kind, often find themselves reaching for over-the-counter analgesics during flare-ups because the system has not yet offered them something better. If that sounds familiar, Solpadeine Max tablets may be part of your short-term toolkit, but we would also love to have a broader conversation about what else might help. Our pharmacists can signpost you to services, discuss prescription alternatives including compounded topical pain creams, and help you build a more complete picture of your pain management options.
Trust is not something we claim; it is something we try to earn through transparency, evidence-based guidance, and showing up consistently. Courier Pharmacy is UK-regulated, operates under GPhC oversight, and publishes content grounded in NHS, NICE, BNF, and peer-reviewed sources. When we recommend something, it is because the evidence supports it and it fits your needs, not because it is the most profitable option.

We also run free fortnightly drop-in clinics and talks at Insomnia, Derby, every other week from 12 to 1pm. No appointment, no cost, no obligation.
Active ingredients in Solpadeine Max tablets
Each tablet contains two active ingredients. Paracetamol 500mg is the primary analgesic and antipyretic. It is one of the most widely used medicines in the world, with a well-established safety profile when taken at recommended doses. Codeine phosphate hemihydrate 12.8mg is a mild opioid prodrug that is metabolised in the liver to morphine by the CYP2D6 enzyme.
The 12.8mg dose of codeine in Solpadeine Max tablets is at the lower end of the therapeutic range. It is sufficient to provide meaningful additive analgesia alongside paracetamol, while staying within the threshold that defines the boundary between Pharmacy-only and Prescription Only Medicines in the UK. The pharmacokinetic interaction between the two ingredients is largely additive: each contributes its own mechanism independently, but together they address pain through complementary pathways simultaneously.
What are Solpadeine Max tablets used for?
Solpadeine Max tablets are indicated for the short-term treatment of acute moderate pain that has not been adequately relieved by paracetamol, ibuprofen, or aspirin used alone. Typical presentations include dental pain, headache and migraine, period pain, back pain, rheumatic pain, and muscular aches. The key qualifier is "acute": this is a medicine for a defined episode of pain, not for ongoing daily use.
The product is designed for situations where you have already tried a simpler analgesic and it has not been sufficient. If paracetamol 1000mg or ibuprofen 400mg has not touched your headache, or if dental pain is making it impossible to concentrate, Solpadeine Max tablets offer a step up in analgesic coverage without requiring a prescription or a GP appointment. That is genuinely useful, as long as it is used for the right type of pain, at the right time, for the right duration.
It is not appropriate for chronic pain conditions, pain that has been present for more than a few days, or pain of unknown cause. If you find yourself reaching for Solpadeine Max regularly, that is a signal to have a proper conversation with a healthcare professional rather than continuing to self-treat. Recurring pain often has an underlying cause that deserves investigation, and regular codeine use brings its own risks.
How do Solpadeine Max tablets work?
Paracetamol, the primary ingredient, works mainly in the central nervous system. The exact mechanism is not completely understood, but it is thought to inhibit a variant of the cyclo-oxygenase enzyme in the brain and spinal cord, reducing the production of prostaglandins that sensitise pain receptors. Unlike NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, paracetamol has minimal anti-inflammatory effect in peripheral tissues, which is why it is less effective for inflammatory conditions but generally better tolerated by the stomach.
Codeine is an opioid prodrug, meaning it is not itself the active molecule but is converted to morphine in the liver by the enzyme CYP2D6. Morphine then binds to mu-opioid receptors in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral tissues, reducing the perception of pain and altering the emotional response to it. At the 12.8mg dose in Solpadeine Max tablets, the effect is modest but clinically meaningful when added to paracetamol. It is enough to make a noticeable difference to moderate pain without the sedation or side effect burden of higher opioid doses.
The conversion of codeine to morphine by CYP2D6 varies significantly between individuals. Poor metabolisers, who carry reduced-function CYP2D6 gene variants, convert very little codeine to morphine and may find Solpadeine Max less effective. Ultra-rapid metabolisers, who have amplified CYP2D6 activity, convert codeine to morphine faster and in greater quantities, which can cause morphine toxicity even at standard doses. This genetic variation is one of the reasons codeine requires careful consideration, particularly in populations with higher frequencies of the ultra-rapid metaboliser genotype.
After you swallow a Solpadeine Max Tablet, the tablet disintegrates in the stomach and the active ingredients are absorbed from the small intestine. Peak paracetamol blood levels are typically reached around 45 to 60 minutes after dosing. Codeine reaches peak levels in a similar timeframe, with its analgesic effect building over the following hour as it is metabolised to morphine. Without the caffeine that the soluble version contains, the onset of effect is slightly slower than the soluble Solpadeine Max format, but the overall analgesic strength and duration of effect are the same.
How to use Solpadeine Max tablets
Take the lowest effective number of tablets for the shortest time necessary. For adults aged 16 and over, the standard dose is 2 tablets at a time; some people find 1 tablet adequate for milder pain, and there is no benefit to taking more than the dose that controls your pain. Take the tablets with a full glass of water, with or without food, and swallow them whole. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets, which can affect how they are absorbed.
Spacing your doses sensibly matters. Waiting at least four hours between doses prevents the paracetamol component from accumulating to unsafe levels. Set a reminder if you think you might lose track of timing, particularly during a day of significant pain. Do not take Solpadeine Max tablets alongside other paracetamol-containing products. This includes many cold and flu remedies, night-time pain relief tablets, and other combination analgesics. Accidental paracetamol overdose is more common than most people realise and is largely avoidable with a little awareness.
Keep to the three-day maximum. If your pain has not improved within three days, or if it has worsened or changed in character, stop taking Solpadeine Max and seek medical advice. Pain that persists deserves investigation, not a continuing supply of OTC analgesics. If you find yourself tempted to continue beyond three days because stopping feels difficult, that is a signal worth taking seriously and discussing with a pharmacist or GP.
Warnings and precautions for Solpadeine Max tablets
Do not take Solpadeine Max tablets if you are allergic to paracetamol, codeine, or any of the other ingredients. Do not give it to children under 12 years of age. It is contraindicated in people known to be ultra-rapid metabolisers of codeine, as the rapid conversion to morphine increases the risk of opioid toxicity. It is also contraindicated in people with significant respiratory depression, severe obstructive airways disease, severe liver impairment, raised intracranial pressure, or recent head injury, and in adolescents under 18 who have had tonsils or adenoids removed for obstructive sleep apnoea.
Codeine dependence is a real and documented risk, particularly for people who use codeine-containing products regularly or at higher doses. If you have a personal or family history of substance misuse or addiction, discuss alternatives with your pharmacist before taking Solpadeine Max. The three-day rule is in place partly because dependence can begin to develop with surprisingly brief regular exposure, especially in individuals with relevant risk factors.
Medication overuse headache (MOH) is a particularly important concern for people who experience frequent headaches. Using any analgesic, including Solpadeine Max, on more than ten days per month can paradoxically worsen headache frequency and severity over time. If headaches are a recurring issue, seeking a proper diagnosis and management plan is more useful than repeated short courses of analgesics.
Liver safety is the key concern with paracetamol. At recommended doses, paracetamol is safe for most people. However, the margin between a therapeutic dose and a harmful one is smaller than many people appreciate. People with liver disease, those who drink alcohol regularly, and those who are underweight or have low glutathione stores should use paracetamol-containing products with particular care and ideally under medical supervision.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: codeine is not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, and should not be used by breastfeeding mothers. Codeine passes into breast milk, and if the mother is an ultra-rapid metaboliser, the baby could receive harmful levels of morphine. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding and need pain relief, paracetamol alone is the preferred option; speak to your midwife or GP for advice specific to your situation.
Other cautions include kidney disease, gallbladder removal (which can affect codeine metabolism), inflammatory bowel disease, and use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) for depression. If any of these apply, mention them during your consultation so the pharmacist can confirm suitability or suggest an alternative.
Side effects of Solpadeine Max tablets
Like all medicines, Solpadeine Max tablets can cause side effects in some people. The most common ones are related to the codeine component. Constipation is the most frequently reported side effect of codeine-containing analgesics; it affects most people who take codeine regularly, even for short periods. Nausea and vomiting occur in some users, particularly at the start of treatment or at higher doses. Drowsiness or lightheadedness is also relatively common, which is why you should be cautious about driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. Without the caffeine that the soluble version contains, the drowsiness from the codeine in the standard tablet form may be slightly more noticeable than from Solpadeine Max Soluble for daytime use.
Less common side effects include dry mouth, difficulty urinating, and skin reactions such as rash or itching. Dizziness and mood changes, including a mildly euphoric feeling in some people, can occur with the codeine component and are part of why misuse potential exists.
Rare but serious side effects include severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), severe skin reactions, respiratory depression particularly in ultra-rapid metabolisers or overdose situations, and liver damage from paracetamol toxicity if the recommended dose is exceeded or if the person has underlying liver vulnerability. If you experience any signs of a serious reaction, including difficulty breathing, severe rash, or confusion, seek emergency medical attention immediately.
Signs of paracetamol overdose may not be obvious for the first day or two and can include nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain before more serious liver damage becomes apparent. If you have accidentally taken more than the recommended dose, go to your nearest emergency department immediately, even if you feel well, and take the packet with you.
You can report suspected adverse drug reactions to the MHRA via the Yellow Card scheme at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk. Your report contributes to post-market drug safety monitoring and helps protect other patients.
Drug interactions with Solpadeine Max tablets
Tell your pharmacist about all medicines you are taking before purchasing Solpadeine Max tablets, including prescription medicines, other over-the-counter products, and herbal remedies. Several clinically important interactions exist across the two active ingredients.
Other paracetamol-containing products are the most common source of accidental overdose. Many cold, flu, and pain relief products available without prescription contain paracetamol. Taking Solpadeine Max tablets alongside these products can easily push the total daily paracetamol dose above the safe limit of 4000mg for adults. Always check the ingredients of any medicine you are already taking before adding Solpadeine Max to your regimen.
CNS depressants including alcohol, benzodiazepines, other opioids, sedating antihistamines, and some antidepressants can have additive sedative and respiratory depressant effects with the codeine in Solpadeine Max. Combining codeine with other CNS depressants increases the risk of excessive sedation, impaired breathing, and overdose. Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) interact with codeine in ways that can be unpredictable and clinically significant. Codeine is contraindicated with MAOIs or within 14 days of stopping them. If you are taking or have recently taken phenelzine, tranylcypromine, or similar drugs, do not take Solpadeine Max without medical advice.
Warfarin and other anticoagulants may be affected by regular high-dose paracetamol use, which can enhance the anticoagulant effect and increase bleeding risk. At the doses used in Solpadeine Max and for the recommended short course, the interaction is unlikely to be clinically significant, but people taking warfarin should still mention it to their anticoagulation clinic. Metoclopramide and domperidone can speed up paracetamol absorption; colestyramine can reduce it and should not be taken within an hour of Solpadeine Max.
Frequently asked questions about Solpadeine Max tablets
What is Solpadeine Max used for?
Solpadeine Max tablets are used for the short-term relief of moderate pain that has not been adequately relieved by paracetamol, ibuprofen, or aspirin alone. Suitable conditions include dental pain, headache, migraine, period pain, back pain, and muscular aches. It should only be used for up to three consecutive days.
What is the difference between Solpadeine Max tablets and Solpadeine Max Soluble Tablets?
Both formulations contain paracetamol 500mg and codeine 12.8mg. The standard tablet form, sold in the 24-tablet pack, is caffeine-free and has no significant sodium load, so it suits people who want caffeine-free pain relief or who need to limit sodium intake. The soluble version additionally contains 30mg of caffeine and carries a significant sodium load to make the effervescent chemistry work; it is absorbed slightly faster but is not ideal for people with hypertension, heart failure, or kidney disease.
What are the active ingredients in Solpadeine Max tablets?
Each tablet contains two active ingredients: paracetamol 500mg, which provides central analgesia, and codeine phosphate hemihydrate 12.8mg, a mild opioid that is converted to morphine in the liver. The standard tablet form does not contain caffeine; if you want the caffeine-enhanced version, see Solpadeine Max Soluble.
How long can I take Solpadeine Max tablets for?
Solpadeine Max tablets should not be taken for more than three consecutive days. If your pain has not improved within that time, or if it worsens or changes, stop using it and seek advice from a pharmacist or GP. Prolonged use beyond three days significantly increases the risk of codeine dependence and medication overuse headache.
Can I take Solpadeine Max with paracetamol?
No. Solpadeine Max tablets already contain 500mg of paracetamol per tablet. Taking additional paracetamol at the same time could push your total daily intake above the safe limit of 4000mg, risking liver damage. Also avoid taking it with other paracetamol-containing products such as cold and flu remedies or other combination painkillers.
Can I take Solpadeine Max with ibuprofen?
In most cases, yes. Paracetamol and ibuprofen work through different mechanisms and can generally be taken together. However, always check with your pharmacist first, particularly if you have a history of stomach problems, kidney disease, or are taking other medicines. Do not assume all combinations are safe without checking.
Can I drink alcohol while taking Solpadeine Max?
No. Alcohol interacts with both the codeine and paracetamol components of Solpadeine Max. Combined with codeine, alcohol increases the risk of sedation and respiratory depression. Combined with paracetamol, regular alcohol consumption increases the risk of liver damage. Avoid alcohol completely while taking this medicine.
Is Solpadeine Max suitable for children?
Solpadeine Max is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. For young people aged 12 to 15, the dose is one tablet every six hours as needed, maximum four tablets in 24 hours. Codeine is contraindicated in children under 12 following MHRA guidance, due to the risk of respiratory depression, particularly in ultra-rapid codeine metabolisers.
Can I take Solpadeine Max when pregnant?
Codeine is not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, and should be avoided by breastfeeding mothers. If you are pregnant and need pain relief, paracetamol alone is the recommended first-line option. Speak to your midwife or GP before taking any codeine-containing product during pregnancy.
Why doesn't the standard Solpadeine Max tablet contain caffeine?
The standard tablet form of Solpadeine Max is licensed and formulated without caffeine, while the soluble version adds caffeine as an analgesic adjuvant. This gives patients a clear choice. If you want the caffeine boost (for example for daytime use or where speed of onset matters), the soluble version suits better. If you want caffeine-free pain relief (for evening use, if you're caffeine-sensitive, or if you prefer not to add a stimulant to your day), the standard tablet form is the right choice.
What does "ultra-rapid metaboliser" mean and why does it matter for codeine?
Ultra-rapid metabolisers carry a gene variant that causes them to convert codeine to morphine much faster and more completely than average. This means even a standard dose of codeine can produce morphine levels high enough to cause toxicity, including severe drowsiness, confusion, or difficulty breathing. Ultra-rapid metabolisers should not use codeine-containing products. Genetic testing is available to identify metaboliser status if there is clinical reason to do so.
What is medication overuse headache?
Medication overuse headache (MOH) develops when analgesics are taken too frequently, typically on more than ten days per month. The brain adapts to regular analgesic use and becomes more sensitive to pain in their absence, making headaches worse over time. Any analgesic can cause MOH, including paracetamol-codeine combinations. If you have frequent headaches, seek proper diagnosis rather than relying on regular OTC pain relief.
What should I do if I accidentally take too much Solpadeine Max?
Go to your nearest emergency department immediately, even if you feel well. Paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver damage that may not produce obvious symptoms for one to two days. Take the medicine packet with you so healthcare staff know exactly what you have taken and how much. Do not wait to see if symptoms develop before seeking help.
Is Solpadeine Max addictive?
Codeine has the potential to cause physical dependence with regular use. At the doses in Solpadeine Max, the risk within a properly observed three-day course is low for most people, but it is not zero, and it increases with duration of use. People with a personal or family history of substance misuse may be at higher risk. If stopping feels difficult, speak to your GP or pharmacist.
Can I drive after taking Solpadeine Max?
Codeine can cause drowsiness, lightheadedness, and impaired concentration. You should not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. Unlike the soluble version, the standard tablet doesn't contain caffeine to partially offset the drowsiness, so the sedative effect of the codeine may be slightly more noticeable. If you feel drowsy after taking Solpadeine Max, do not drive.
Can I take Solpadeine Max for period pain?
Yes. Primary dysmenorrhoea (period pain) is a recognised indication for Solpadeine Max when it has not been adequately controlled by paracetamol or ibuprofen alone. However, for many people, ibuprofen is actually more effective for period pain because of its anti-inflammatory action. If you regularly need step-up analgesia for periods, it may be worth discussing prescription options or hormonal management with your GP.
Can Solpadeine Max cause constipation?
Yes. Constipation is one of the most common side effects of codeine-containing medicines, including Solpadeine Max. Codeine slows gut motility through opioid receptors in the gastrointestinal tract. For a short three-day course, this is usually manageable with adequate fluid intake. If constipation is a significant concern, consider whether a codeine-free analgesic might meet your needs.
Is Solpadeine Max the same as co-codamol?
Solpadeine Max tablets contain the same two analgesic ingredients as co-codamol 8/500-equivalent products, but at a slightly higher codeine dose: paracetamol 500mg and codeine 12.8mg per tablet. Co-codamol 8/500 contains 8mg of codeine; co-codamol 30/500 is prescription-only. The standard Solpadeine Max tablet form is effectively a slightly stronger pharmacy-supplied paracetamol-and-codeine combination without added caffeine.
How should I store Solpadeine Max tablets?
Store at room temperature, below 25 degrees Celsius, in the original packaging. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack. Unlike soluble tablets, standard tablets are reasonably tolerant of normal humidity, but they should still be kept dry and away from heat.
Can I take Solpadeine Max for a migraine?
Solpadeine Max may provide some relief for mild to moderate migraine pain, particularly where analgesic-responsive migraine is the diagnosis. However, for moderate to severe migraine, triptans are generally more effective and should be considered. Frequent use of analgesics for migraine also risks medication overuse headache. If you have frequent migraines, a GP or neurologist can discuss a more targeted treatment plan.
