Description

Product description Kalms Lavender One-A-Day Capsules

What Kalms Lavender One-A-Day is

Firstly, Kalms Lavender is a soft capsule taken by mouth. So each capsule carries 80mg of lavender oil in a swallow-whole form. In particular, this is the “one-a-day” option in the Kalms range, unlike Kalms Day (six tablets a day) or Kalms Night (four tablets before bed). Furthermore, the capsule format suits people who prefer a simple, once-daily routine.

What THR means, in plain English

THR stands for Traditional Herbal Registration. So a THR product is not a fully licensed medicine. However, it has been reviewed by the MHRA for quality and safety. In particular, its use is based on 30 or more years of traditional use, not on modern clinical trials. As a result, THR products can only claim traditional use, not proven cures.

How Kalms Lavender differs from other Kalms products

Kalms Lavender uses lavender oil, not valerian. So the herb and the mechanism are different from Kalms Day (valerian plus hops) and Kalms Night (valerian only). Furthermore, the one-capsule daily routine is simpler than the multi-tablet dosing of the other Kalms products. In particular, some people find lavender oil sits better with them than valerian, or the other way round. As a result, the three Kalms options give three different ways to try a herbal approach.

Pack sizes available

Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules come in three pack sizes:

  • 14 soft capsules: a 2-week trial pack, matching the “review at 2 weeks” point in the PIL.
  • 28 soft capsules: a 4-week pack for a longer trial.
  • 56 soft capsules: an 8-week pack for continued use once you know it suits you.

Kalms Lavender One-A-Day Capsules

Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules, a one-capsule lavender-oil option for mild anxiety

Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules are a traditional herbal medicine used for the temporary relief of mild anxiety, stress, and nervousness. So they are a self-care option for short-lived, everyday worries. Kalms Lavender contains 80mg of oil from the flowering tops of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). As a result, this is the “one capsule, once a day” option in the Kalms range.

When to see a doctor rather than self-treat with Kalms Lavender

Kalms Lavender is for mild, short-lived symptoms of anxiety and stress. So some situations need proper medical review, not a herbal capsule:

  • Anxiety symptoms that have not improved after 2 weeks of Kalms Lavender.
  • Signs of depression: low mood, loss of interest, hopelessness, or trouble getting through the day.
  • Panic attacks, or anxiety that stops you working, sleeping, or leaving the house.
  • Palpitations, chest pain, or shakiness that could point to a heart or thyroid issue.
  • Anxiety in anyone under 18 (Kalms Lavender is only for adults).
  • Anxiety in pregnancy or breastfeeding (Kalms Lavender is not for these).
  • Anxiety after trauma, bereavement, or a major life event.
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

For life-threatening symptoms, call 999. For urgent but non-emergency worries, call NHS 111 or your GP. In particular, if you have thoughts of self-harm, call Samaritans on 116 123 (free, any time).

Five key takeaways about Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules

  • Kalms Lavender is a traditional herbal medicine (THR 05332/0008) used for temporary mild anxiety, stress, and nervousness, based on long-standing use.
  • Each soft capsule contains 80mg of lavender oil from flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia.
  • The dose is one capsule daily, swallowed whole with a drink, at roughly the same time each day.
  • Kalms Lavender is for adults only (18 and over). So it is not for children, teenagers under 18, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
  • Speak to a doctor if symptoms have not improved after 2 weeks, or if any signs of depression appear.

What is Kalms Lavender One-A-Day: overview

A note on lavender oil

Lavender oil has a long history of traditional use across European herbal medicine. So it has been used for centuries in teas, tinctures, and aromatherapy for calming purposes. In particular, standardised oral lavender oil is the form used in Kalms Lavender, delivered inside a soft capsule to avoid the taste and to control the dose.

The THR scheme, in plain English

The Traditional Herbal Registration scheme was set up by the MHRA in 2011. So it gives UK consumers a way to know a herbal product has been reviewed for quality and safety. In particular, every THR product carries a unique THR number on the pack. Furthermore, the scheme lets you spot a proper regulated herbal medicine among the many unregulated supplements on the market.

What THR claims can (and can’t) say

THR products can say “traditionally used for…” based on 30 or more years of continuous use. However, they cannot make modern efficacy claims (no “clinically proven” wording, no “treats anxiety” language). So Kalms Lavender is described as a traditional remedy for mild anxiety, stress, and nervousness, not as a proven anxiety treatment.

Why choose Courier Pharmacy for your Kalms Lavender capsules

Registered, independent, and patient-led

Courier Pharmacy is a UK-registered independent pharmacy regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC 9010051). So when you buy Kalms Lavender through us, you get a proper pharmacy team, not a warehouse. Furthermore, our independence means we can take time on anxiety and stress questions where a large chain often cannot.

Prescriber-led mental health context

At Courier Pharmacy, we take mental health questions seriously.  So if a herbal option is not the right pick for you, we can steer you toward the right kind of help. Furthermore, we can flag when the situation needs a GP referral rather than another capsule.

Dr Ada Jex-Cori, our brand pharmacist

Our brand pharmacist is Dr Ada Jex-Cori. She represents the spirit of what we do. Named for Ada Lovelace, Sophia Jex-Blake, and Gerty Cori, she stands for evidence-led, unafraid-of-questions medicine. Her message runs through everything we advise:

You’re not broken. The system is. We’re here to change that.

For anyone who has felt dismissed when asking about anxiety or stress, this matters. So we want to help you find the right level of support, whether that’s a herbal option, talking therapy, or a proper prescription.

Dr Ada Jex Cori with coupon code AJC10 courierpharmacy.co.uk

Coordinated advice with your other medicines

If you take prescribed medicines (particularly for depression, sleep, or blood pressure), we can flag any concerns about mixing them with a herbal option. So the interaction check is included, not an afterthought. In particular, the PIL is explicit that Kalms Lavender is not for people already taking a sleep or anxiety medicine.

Care that keeps showing up

Anxiety often comes in waves. So we’re here for the follow-up questions along the way: adjusting your approach if Kalms Lavender doesn’t suit, discussing when to try talking therapy, or flagging when a GP referral would matter more.

Buy Kalms Lavender One-A-Day Capsules from Courier Pharmacy

Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules are a traditional herbal medicine (THR), available without prescription at courierpharmacy.co.uk. So supply is straightforward. Furthermore, our pharmacy team still reviews every sale as part of our routine check.

If Kalms Lavender isn’t right for you

If our team thinks a different approach fits your situation better, we’ll explain why and suggest the next best option. So this might mean:

  • Kalms Day tablets if you’d rather try the valerian-and-hops blend.
  • Kalms Night if the main issue is sleep rather than daytime anxiety.
  • Rescue Remedy for very short bursts of situational anxiety.
  • A GP referral for talking therapy (CBT), if anxiety needs more than a herbal option.
  • An SSRI or other prescribed option if the picture points to a proper anxiety disorder.
  • An NHS self-referral to IAPT for talking therapy without seeing a GP first.

Above all, we won’t sell you a herbal capsule that isn’t right for your situation. In short, honest guidance matters more than making the sale.

Summary

  • Kalms Lavender One-A-Day is a UK-marketed traditional herbal medicine, distributed by G.R. Lane Health Products Ltd (Lanes Health).
  • It carries one active ingredient: 80mg of oil from flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia, per soft capsule.
  • It is used for temporary relief of mild anxiety, stress, and nervousness, based on long-standing traditional use.
  • It is not a licensed medicine. So its claims are based on traditional use, not modern clinical trials.

Active ingredient in Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules

Lavender oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

Each soft capsule contains 80mg of oil from the flowering tops of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia Miller, aetheroleum). So lavender oil is the sole active ingredient. In particular, this is a standardised oral preparation, not the essential oil sold for aromatherapy or skin use. Furthermore, taking any random lavender oil orally is not the same thing, so do not substitute other lavender oils for this product.

Other ingredients

Kalms Lavender capsules also contain the soft capsule shell (gelatin and glycerol), plus sorbitol as an excipient. So people with hereditary fructose intolerance or sorbitol intolerance should ask their doctor before taking Kalms Lavender. In particular, the current excipient list is on the pack and PIL.

What are Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules for?

Kalms Lavender is a traditional herbal medicine used for the temporary relief of symptoms of mild anxiety, stress, and nervousness. So it is a self-care option for short-lived, everyday worries. In particular, it is helpful in several common situations:

Everyday stress and nervousness

Life throws in busy weeks with deadlines and family pressures. So Kalms Lavender is used by many adults as a daily option during these phases. In particular, the one-a-day routine makes it easy to build into a morning ritual.

Situational nervousness

Ongoing situations (a new job, a house move, a difficult period at work) can bring lingering low-level anxiety. So Kalms Lavender is used by some people through these transitions. However, the effect builds over 2 to 4 weeks rather than working within hours.

When valerian doesn't suit

Some people find valerian in Kalms Day or Kalms Night doesn't sit well with them. So a lavender-oil alternative is a reasonable next thing to try. In particular, the two herbs work through different mechanisms, so a poor response to one doesn't predict a poor response to the other.

Where Kalms Lavender is not the right choice

However, some situations need a doctor, not a herbal capsule:

  • Panic disorder or generalised anxiety disorder (needs proper GP or specialist review).
  • Anxiety with depression (needs a full mental health assessment).
  • Anxiety after trauma (needs trauma-focused therapy).
  • Anxiety in anyone under 18 (needs age-appropriate input).
  • Anxiety in pregnancy or breastfeeding (Kalms Lavender is not for these).
  • If you are already on a prescribed sleep or anxiety medicine.

How do Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules work?

Kalms Lavender is a traditional herbal medicine. So the mechanism of oral lavender oil is based on long-standing use and early research, not on the modern trial evidence used for licensed medicines. In particular, five main pathways have been proposed for oral lavender oil.

Voltage-gated calcium channels

The main active compounds in lavender oil (linalool and linalyl acetate) appear to reduce activity at certain voltage-gated calcium channels in the nervous system. So this may lower the flow of calcium into overactive nerve cells. Furthermore, calcium-channel effects sit at the heart of how several licensed anti-anxiety medicines are thought to work. As a result, this is one of the most-studied proposed mechanisms for oral lavender oil in mild anxiety.

Serotonin (5-HT1A) receptor activity

Lavender oil compounds also appear to interact with serotonin 5-HT1A receptors in the brain. So this is the same receptor family that buspirone (a licensed anti-anxiety medicine) acts on. In particular, this mechanism may help explain the gentle calming effect that builds over 2 to 4 weeks of regular use.

Nervous system settling

Lavender oil traditionally settles the nervous system in a gentle way. So the overall effect is described as calming without heavy sedation. In particular, this makes Kalms Lavender a daytime-friendly option, unlike stronger sedatives that wipe out alertness.

Why the effect takes time to build

Oral lavender oil is not a fast-acting sedative. So the effect on anxiety usually builds over 2 to 4 weeks of daily use, rather than showing up within hours of the first capsule. In particular, this is why the PIL sets a 2-week review point. Furthermore, if you have not noticed any change by 2 weeks, another approach is likely needed.

Why one capsule a day is enough

The 80mg dose per capsule delivers a standardised amount of lavender oil once a day. So daily levels build up steadily over the first weeks. Furthermore, the once-daily rhythm is easier to keep up than a multiple-doses-a-day regimen. In particular, this is why the Kalms Lavender range uses a one-capsule format, unlike Kalms Day (six tablets a day) or Kalms Night (four tablets before bed).

How to take Kalms Lavender One-A-Day Capsules

The basic pattern

  • Adults 18 and over: one soft capsule daily, swallowed whole with water.
  • Take at the same time each day for a consistent routine.
  • Do not chew, cut, or open the capsule.
  • Use for at least 2 weeks to give the effect time to build.
  • Speak to a doctor if symptoms have not improved after 2 weeks.

Best time of day

Morning is a common choice. So Kalms Lavender fits neatly into a breakfast-time routine. However, some people prefer to take it in the evening. In particular, the choice is about routine, not about when the effect kicks in.

Belching or burping

The most common side effect is belching, from the lavender oil itself. So taking the capsule with a full glass of water, after food, can reduce this. In particular, if belching bothers you, taking the capsule at bedtime may be preferable to daytime dosing.

Driving and machinery

Kalms Lavender may impair your ability to drive or use machines. So take care if driving or operating machinery, especially in the first few days. In particular, do not drive if affected.

Storage

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Keep in the original blister pack until use.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.

Treatment dosage Kalms Lavender One-A-Day Capsules

The standard adult dose

Adults 18 and over: take one soft capsule daily, swallowed whole with a drink of water. So the total daily dose is one capsule. In particular, try to take it at the same time each day for a consistent routine. Furthermore, do not exceed one capsule in 24 hours.

How long each pack lasts

At one capsule a day, a 14-capsule pack lasts 2 weeks. Furthermore, a 28-capsule pack lasts 4 weeks. In particular, a 56-capsule pack lasts 8 weeks, which suits ongoing use once you know Kalms Lavender is right for you.

When to review

The PIL suggests a 2-week review point. So if symptoms have not improved after 2 weeks of daily Kalms Lavender, speak to a doctor. Furthermore, seek medical advice at any point if signs of depression appear, or if symptoms get worse.

If a dose is missed

Take the missed capsule as soon as you remember on the same day. However, if it is nearly time for the next day's dose, skip the missed one. So never take two capsules in 24 hours to catch up.

When to stop and see your GP

Stop Kalms Lavender and see your GP if:

  • Symptoms have not improved after 2 weeks of daily use.
  • Symptoms have got worse.
  • You develop signs of depression (low mood, hopelessness, loss of interest).
  • You develop new symptoms (panic attacks, palpitations, chest pain).
  • You have thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

Warnings and precautions for Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules

Review at 2 weeks

If symptoms have not improved after 2 weeks of daily Kalms Lavender use, speak to your doctor. So ongoing anxiety often needs talking therapy or a proper prescription. In particular, do not keep taking Kalms Lavender past 2 weeks without a proper review.

Watch for signs of depression

The PIL is explicit: seek medical advice if signs of depression appear. So low mood, hopelessness, loss of interest, or trouble getting through the day all warrant a GP conversation. In particular, if you have thoughts of self-harm, call 999 or Samaritans on 116 123.

Not for anyone under 18

Kalms Lavender is only for adults aged 18 and over. So a child or teenager needing help with anxiety needs a GP or age-appropriate assessment.

Not in pregnancy or breastfeeding

Kalms Lavender should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. So the safety data for oral lavender oil during pregnancy is limited.

Not with other sleep or anxiety medicines

The PIL is explicit: do not take Kalms Lavender if you are already taking another medicine for sleep or anxiety. So this includes both prescribed medicines (benzodiazepines, Z-drugs, SSRIs, SNRIs, buspirone) and other herbal or over-the-counter sleep aids.

Lavender allergy

Do not take Kalms Lavender if you are allergic to lavender oil. In particular, this includes anyone who has had skin reactions to lavender essential oil or lavender-scented products.

Sorbitol content

Kalms Lavender capsules contain sorbitol. So people with hereditary fructose intolerance or sorbitol intolerance should ask their doctor before taking Kalms Lavender.

Alcohol

Alcohol can add to the calming effect of Kalms Lavender. So moderate to heavy alcohol use is best avoided while taking Kalms Lavender. In particular, do not drink heavily and then take a capsule expecting a stronger effect.

Dr Ada Jex Cori drug warning courierpharmacy.co.uk

Side effects of Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules

Kalms Lavender is generally well tolerated at one capsule a day. So most people take it without any problem. However, some side effects are listed on the PIL:

Common side effects (1 to 10 in 100 people)

  • Belching or burping (the most common effect, from the lavender oil itself).
  • Allergic skin reactions such as itching, skin rash, or hives.

If side effects occur

Belching often settles by taking the capsule after food or with a full glass of water. However, if a skin rash or itching develops, stop Kalms Lavender and speak to a pharmacist or GP. In particular, widespread rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty needs urgent medical attention.

Rare but important

  • Severe allergic reaction (facial swelling, breathing difficulty, widespread rash).
  • Signs of liver dysfunction (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, right-sided abdominal pain).
  • New or worsening low mood.

When to stop and get help

Stop Kalms Lavender and get medical help if you develop signs of a severe allergic reaction, signs of liver problems, or new low mood. So for life-threatening symptoms, call 999.

Yellow Card scheme: report any suspected side effects via https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk or the Yellow Card app. Reporting helps make medicines safer for everyone.

Dr Ada Jex Cori side effects courierpharmacy.co.uk

Interactions with other medicines

Other sleep or anxiety medicines

The PIL is explicit: do not take Kalms Lavender alongside any other medicine for sleep or anxiety. So this includes benzodiazepines (diazepam, lorazepam), Z-drugs (zopiclone, zolpidem), SSRIs (sertraline, fluoxetine, citalopram), SNRIs (venlafaxine, duloxetine), buspirone, mirtazapine, tricyclics, and pregabalin.

Other herbal sleep or anxiety products

Do not combine Kalms Lavender with other herbal calming products. So this includes Kalms Day, Kalms Night, valerian on its own, passionflower, hops products, or CBD supplements. In particular, mixing herbal calmers can add up in ways that are hard to predict.

Alcohol

Alcohol can add to the calming effect of Kalms Lavender. So moderate to heavy alcohol use is best avoided while taking Kalms Lavender.

Sedating antihistamines

Older sedating antihistamines (diphenhydramine, chlorphenamine, promethazine) can add to Kalms Lavender's effect. So combining them may cause more drowsiness than either alone.

Anaesthesia

Tell your anaesthetist if you take Kalms Lavender before any planned surgery or dental procedure with anaesthetic. So the anaesthetist may want you to stop Kalms Lavender a few days before.

Frequently asked questions about Kalms Lavender One-A-Day capsules

What's in Kalms Lavender One-A-Day?

Each soft capsule contains 80mg of oil from flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia. So lavender oil is the sole active ingredient.

How is Kalms Lavender different from Kalms Day and Kalms Night?

Kalms Lavender uses lavender oil, while Kalms Day and Night use valerian. So the herbs and the mechanisms are different. Furthermore, Kalms Lavender is once a day, Kalms Day is six tablets a day, and Kalms Night is four tablets before bed. In particular, some people find one herb suits them better than the other, so trying the alternative when the first doesn't work is a reasonable step.

How quickly does Kalms Lavender work?

Effects are not immediate. So plan a 2-week trial before deciding whether Kalms Lavender helps. In particular, this is why the pack sizes and the PIL are built around a 2-week review point.

Can I take Kalms Lavender long-term?

If symptoms have not improved after 2 weeks, speak to a doctor. However, some people continue Kalms Lavender for longer periods once it is working for them. In particular, a pharmacist or GP conversation is worth having if you're on it for more than a month.

Can I take Kalms Lavender with alcohol?

Moderate to heavy alcohol is best avoided. So the calming effect of lavender oil can add to the effect of alcohol. In particular, the two together can cause more sedation than expected.

Can I take Kalms Lavender with my antidepressant?

No. The PIL is explicit: do not take Kalms Lavender if you are already on another sleep or anxiety medicine, and this includes antidepressants used for anxiety.

Can I take Kalms Lavender during pregnancy?

No. Kalms Lavender is not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. So if anxiety is a problem during pregnancy, see your GP or midwife.

Can teenagers take Kalms Lavender?

No. Kalms Lavender is for adults 18 and over only. So a teenager with anxiety needs a GP or age-appropriate assessment.

Why do I burp after taking a capsule?

Belching or burping is the most common side effect of oral lavender oil. So it is a known effect, listed as "common" (1 to 10 in 100 people). In particular, taking the capsule with a full glass of water and after food often reduces it.

Can I open the capsule?

No. Swallow the soft capsule whole. So opening or chewing releases the oil at once, which can cause a strong taste, throat irritation, and more belching.

Is Kalms Lavender the same as lavender essential oil?

No. Kalms Lavender uses a standardised oral preparation of lavender oil, at a controlled 80mg dose per capsule. In particular, essential oils sold for aromatherapy or skin use are not for taking by mouth, and can be harmful if swallowed.

Can I take Kalms Lavender with paracetamol or ibuprofen?

Yes. Paracetamol, ibuprofen, and other non-opioid painkillers do not interact with Kalms Lavender. So these are the safe pain-relief options while on it.

Can I take Kalms Lavender with other herbal calming products?

No. Do not combine Kalms Lavender with Kalms Day, Kalms Night, valerian, passionflower, or CBD supplements. So combining herbal calmers can add up in unpredictable ways.

What if I forget a dose?

Take the missed capsule as soon as you remember on the same day. However, if it is nearly time for the next day's dose, skip the missed one. So do not double up.

Is Kalms Lavender safe if I have diabetes?

Kalms Lavender contains sorbitol as an excipient. So most people with diabetes can take it. However, people with hereditary fructose intolerance or sorbitol intolerance should ask their doctor first.

Does Kalms Lavender help with sleep?

Kalms Lavender is registered for mild anxiety, stress, and nervousness, not for sleep. So if the main problem is sleep, Kalms Night is the more appropriate Kalms product. Furthermore, some people find better daytime calm indirectly improves sleep, but this is not the licensed indication.

Can I drive after taking Kalms Lavender?

For most people, yes. However, Kalms Lavender may impair your ability to drive or use machines. So take care if driving, especially in the first few days.

Where can I get advice if I'm unsure?

Ask our team on the website, or drop in to our free fortnightly Sunday clinic at Insomnia Coffee Shop, Burton Road, Derby, from 10am to 12 noon.

When to move beyond a herbal capsule

Anxiety that lasts more than 2 weeks, gets worse, or shades into depression needs more than a herbal capsule. So our team can help you sort the next steps: NHS talking therapy referral (IAPT), a GP appointment for a proper assessment, or a self-referral to a private CBT therapist. In particular, we can also flag when a physical cause (thyroid, iron, sleep apnoea) may be behind the anxious feelings.
