Warnings and precautions for Beechams Powders Sachets
Children under 16 and Reye's syndrome (contraindicated)
Above all, Beechams Powders must not be given to children under 16 years. Aspirin in children under 16 has been linked to Reye's syndrome.
Firstly, Reye's syndrome is a rare but serious condition affecting the brain and liver. It can develop during recovery from a viral infection.
Also, symptoms include persistent vomiting, drowsiness, confusion, and personality changes. It can progress to seizures, coma, and death.

Aspirin-sensitive asthma (contraindicated)
A proportion of asthma patients experience wheezing, bronchospasm, or breathing problems when they take aspirin or another NSAID. This is called aspirin-sensitive asthma or NSAID hypersensitivity.
Firstly, do not take Beechams Powders if you have ever had asthma, breathing problems, hives, or nasal polyps after taking aspirin or another NSAID.

Do not take Beechams Powders if you are on methotrexate at doses above 15mg per week. Aspirin reduces methotrexate excretion by the kidneys.
Also, this can raise methotrexate levels to toxic. Methotrexate toxicity can cause bone marrow suppression, liver injury, and kidney injury.
However, low-dose methotrexate (up to 15mg per week) is a caution rather than absolute contraindication. Discuss with your specialist or GP.
Pregnancy (not recommended)
Beechams Powders are not recommended during pregnancy. Aspirin at analgesic doses in late pregnancy can cause premature closure of a fetal blood vessel (ductus arteriosus), fetal kidney problems, and prolonged labour.
Also, aspirin at these doses raises the risk of maternal bleeding around delivery.
Furthermore, caffeine consumption above 200mg per day in pregnancy has been linked to a small increased risk of spontaneous abortion and low birth weight.
However, if you need symptom relief in pregnancy, paracetamol at the lowest effective dose is generally preferred. Ask your midwife, GP, or pharmacist.
Breastfeeding (avoid)
Aspirin passes into breast milk in small amounts. It should be avoided during breastfeeding due to the possible risk of Reye's syndrome in the infant.
Also, high aspirin doses could impair infant platelet function.
