Why online isn’t suitable:
- Fever/unwell: could mean infection is spreading and you may need urgent oral treatment.
- Rapid painful worsening: can indicate a serious viral infection needing urgent assessment.
- Clustered blisters / punched-out sores: possible eczema herpeticum; needs urgent antivirals.
- Eye/face involvement: risk to vision; needs urgent in-person review.
- Hot, swollen, very tender, spreading redness: possible cellulitis; needs urgent assessment.
- Red streaks / swollen glands: can suggest spreading infection.
- Widespread in young child: children can deteriorate quickly.
- Immunosuppression: higher risk of complications; lower threshold for urgent review.
- Drowsy/confused/dehydrated: emergency features.
